Updated: Jul 2, 2025
Norway and Switzerland travel to St. Jakob-Park for a 20:00 kick off in the official opening match of the tournament as Switzerland hope to grasp a win in front of a home crowd.
Last time at the UEFA Women’s EURO tournament:
SWITZERLAND
Despite successfully qualifying after beating Czech Republic 3-2 on penalties during the 2022 Euro play-offs, Switzerland failed to advance from the group stage.
Placed in a difficult group alongside Sweden, Netherlands and Portugal, Switzerland’s exit looked inevitable based on recent form.
Switzerland’s opening match against Portugal, saw both teams settle for one point following a 2-2 draw.
However, their hope to advance to the knockout stage was quickly ended, as during their games against Sweden and the Netherlands, Switzerland failed to secure any points.
Switzerland exited the group alongside Portugal after placing third in the group, only sitting above Portugal due to goal difference.
NORWAY
After successfully qualifying for the 2022 tournament, as the winner of Group C, Norway looked to be in a strong place ahead of meeting Group A.
Group D saw host to England, Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland.
Norway’s opening match against Northern Ireland saw the Norwegian side gain their only three points following a strong 4-1 win.
However, their next match against home nation, England, saw Norway suffer a drastic 8-0 defeat.
Their final facing once again didn’t bring Norway any success as Austria managed to secure an early 1-0 win.
Norway exited the group alongside Northern Ireland.
Previous Meetings:
Despite not meeting in the competition since 2000, Switzerland have only managed to secure one out of eight wins in their eight subsequent encounters.
Already this year, during the UEFA Women’s Nations League, Norway have secured two wins against the home nation.
Where to Watch:
The match is set to be played at St. Jakob-Park, at 20:00 BST (21:00 CET) on Wednesday, July 2nd, and can be streamed in the UK on BBC.
What’s next for the two teams?:

Switzerland are then set to face Iceland, on the same day, at Stadion Wankdorf in Bern for a 20:00 BST kick-off.
