Spain’s eyes are set on adding a European Championship to their World Cup winners’ title, as they aim to become the second nation to follow a World Cup win with a EURO triumph.

EURO Qualification:

Spain secured their spot at the 2025 Euros in Switzerland during EURO qualification after successfully becoming the winner of Group A2.

During the group stage of qualification, Spain found themselves amongst Belgium, Czechia, and Denmark.

Qualification for the tournament came after a successful run in the qualification stage as they secured five out of six wins, only failing to gain all three points away from Czechia.

Last time at the EURO 2022:

Despite successfully advancing from the group stage as runners-up, behind Germany , Spain failed to make it further than the quarter-final stage.

Placed in a group alongside Finland, Germany, and Denmark, it looked certain that if they played like they had during qualification, they would easily see themselves into the knockout phase.

Spain’s opening match was against Finland, where they managed to secure a 4-1 win.

However, when up against Germany, the Spanish side suffered a 2-0 defeat, forcing them to drop three points.

Spain’s final challenge was against Denmark, where Spain managed to scrape a late 1-0 win, following a goal from Marta Cardona in the 90th minute.

Their progression saw them face England in a quarter-final tie where, despite taking an early lead, they bowed out of the tournament as they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Recent Fixtures:

More recently, during the UEFA Women’s Nations League tournament, Spain placed top in their League A group.

Despite failing to secure a win in the second game of the group against England, Spain went on to secure five wins.

This means that following the Euros, this summer, Spain will face Sweden in a two-legged semi-final in late October.

Ahead of the Euros, Spain were scheduled to play Japan in a EURO send-off friendly.

The 3-1 win could act as a catalyst for the Spanish side and place them in a winning mindset ahead of the tournament.
