Finland’s final preparation is underway ahead of their fourth European Championship Tournament this summer, where all eyes are on making it out of the group stage for the first time since 2009.
EURO Qualification:
Finland secured their spot at the 2025 Euros in Switzerland during the play-offs, after failing to find success in directly qualifying for the tournament.
During the group stage of qualification, Finland found themselves amongst a difficult group in League A which consisted of Italy, Norway and the Netherlands.
Qualification for the tournament came after a successful 6-0 win against Montenegro, followed by a 2-0 win against Scotland.
Last time at the EURO 2022:
Despite successfully qualifying as the winner of Group E, Finland failed to exit the group stage of the tournament.
Placed in a difficult group alongside Spain, Germany and Denmark, Finland’s exit looked inevitable.
Finland’s opening match was against Spain, who managed to secure a 4-1 win.
However, their unsuccessful run didn’t end there, as during their games against Denmark and Germany, Finland failed to secure any points.
Finland exited the group alongside Denmark after placing bottom of the group.
Recent Fixtures:
More recently, during the UEFA Women’s Nations League tournament, Finland secured second place in their League B group.
Despite failing to secure a win in the opening game of the group against Serbia, Finland went on to secure three wins and two draws.
However, this meant that Finland failed to secure direct promotion back to League A but have advanced to promotion play-off.
Finland are set to play the Netherlands in an international friendly ahead of the Euros at Kooi Stadion on June 26th.
Having last faced the team during EURO qualification, the fixture will test Finland’s improvements ahead of the Euros.
