Real Madrid travel to Stamford Bridge for a 20:00 kick off against Chelsea Women in their opening game of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
During the 23/24 Season, Chelsea found themselves fighting for a spot in the Final; however it wasn’t going to be easy since they were drawn against previous Champions: Barcelona Women.
A spot in the final seemed possible after successfully shutting Barcelona down on home turf, securing a 1-0 victory.
However reality crashed as Barcelona seized the moment at Stamford Bridge and secured their final spot following a 2-0 victory.
With their match against Manchester United being postponed due to concerns with player welfare, Chelsea are already at a major advantage ahead of the face off.
Their previous experience within the competition also putting them at a major advantage, ahead of the fixture.
Despite previously qualifying for the UWCL, Real Madrid don’t have as extensive experience due to being knocked out during the group stages the previous season.
Chelsea success under previous Manager Emma Hayes might overshadow Sonia Bompastor; however it is not to be forgotten that she previously won the competition with French Giants Lyon in 2021-2022: something greater than Hayes’ success in the UWCL with the blues.
Previous Meetings:
Tuesday night, won’t be the first time in which these two sides face each other in the UWCL Group phase: this being the third consecutive time this has happened.
The previous four meetings in the competition, saw Chelsea secure a victory twice over the Spanish side; with the other two times both teams having to settle for a draw.
These results highlight that both teams are not to be underestimated and have the capability to successfully obtain the result which both teams are fighting for.
Will History repeats itself, or will Real Madrid secure revenge and defeat Chelsea in the first leg of the meeting?
Where to watch:
The match is set to be played at Stamford Bridge at 20:00 on Tuesday 8th October and can be streamed on DAZN for those in the UK.
