Brighton host Everton for Matchday 1 of the Women’s Super League on Saturday 21st of September at 12:30pm.

This match-up will be played at Broadfield Stadium, home of Brighton Women and will be shown on the WSL YouTube channel.

Previous matchups between The Seagulls and The Toffees:

The previous matches between these two clubs, have been very close.

Ranging from Brighton winning 2-1 against The Toffees last season, to Everton winning 2-1 against Brighton after.

As we can see, this matchup can be both physical and exciting.

What do Brighton have to bring to this Women’s Super League campaign?

Last season, Brighton finished 9th in the WSL table, following the departure of head coach Melissa Phillips.

Brighton’s new head coach, Dario Vidosic,  signed a three-year deal following a move from A-League Melbourne City.

Despite all that, there is no doubt that quality and experience has been added to The Seagull’s new squad.

Fran Kirby signed for Brighton & Hove Albion from Chelsea where she spent the last 9 seasons in the WSL, winning six Women’s Super League titles, five FA Cups, two League Cups and one community shield.

Not only that, but Kirby was also part of the Winning European Championship team, England (The Lionesses), in 2022.

The talented midfielder scored many incredible goals at the tournament; on the club stage, this will add strength to the midfield.

A standout young player to come to Brighton & Hove Albion is loanee player, Michelle Agyemang.

Agyemang is a forward for both Arsenal and England U19s and has represented her country in the previous Women's U19 European Championship, where she scored three goals and assisted three.

Agyemang will bring pace and stability to the front line helping The Seagulls, hopefully, finish higher in the table than last season.

What do Everton have to bring to this Women’s Super League campaign?

Everton finished their WSL campaign sitting comfortably at 8th, just above The Seagulls.

However, like others, Everton have also added strength and dynamic to their squad.

One standout player being Toni Payne, who is a tactical and ambitious forward.

Toni is another one of those players who has represented their national team at huge tournaments, such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia, where she was named in the 23-player squad as a midfielder.

So, as we can see, Toni Payne is a versatile player too.

Following on from this, another standout player and one to watch in this match is Veatriki Sarri, she transferred to Everton from Brighton in the summer transfer window.

She was a key regular starter for The Albion with her confidence and tactical movement in midfield.

During this matchup, we will see great dynamic from Sarri against her former club.

Will we see Brighton take the win or will we see Everton hold their winning reign over Brighton?

Tune in to WSL YouTube Channel on Saturday 21st of September at 12:30pm to find out!
