Player Profile: Lauren Hemp

Lauren Hemp MBE is one of the most exciting talents who currently plays for Manchester City and represents England internationally, she is a creative winger always eager to make chances.


Hemp began to love the game when she was younger as she played football with her sister in the garden and since then her love for the game has grown.


She has been named PFA young Women’s player of the year a sensational four times, as the keen winger always has a desire for goal.


The Norfolk born winger is key in the lionesses' success and Manchester City as she helps her team to build on chances on strive towards goal, with her speed.


Hemp’s ambition for the game and her humble nature as a forward allows her to push for success and achieve her goals.


Club career:


Hemp began her career at her local club Norwich, yet she thenput pen to paper as she began her senior career with Bristol City, making her debut for the club in September 2016 against Watford.


Whilst still playing for Bristol in 2018 she was named PFA young player of the year, ending the 2017/18 season with nine goals and twenty four appearances.


Hemp decided to end her time at Bristol City as she signed with Manchester City in the Summer of 2018.



She was a regular name in the lineups, due to her speed and sensational talent.


Winning her first trophy with the club, Hemp lifted the Continental cup in the 2018/19 season, which was then followed by the FA cup as she found the back of the net in their 3-0 victory.


With her triumph continuing she was named in the team of year in 2022 and also lifted the Continental cup once again.


The creative maestro continued to demonstrate her talent, contributing with goals and she has signed a contract extension until 2027.



International career:


Hemp has been selected for the England squad since her first call up for the under 15 team in 2015, as she continued to help the England squad winning Vauxhall young player of the year.


In 2019 Lauren Hemp went on to make her senior debut for England, which was a friendly against Portugal, and she had then be selected for the Olympic squad.


She continued to represent her country as she was part of the astonishing squad that won the European Championships in 2022, as it was her corner that created the second goal.


Hemp was part of the 2023 World cup squad as the lionesses finished in second place, she scored an assisted in the semi-final in order to secure a final spot.


The exciting winger still continues to be selected for the lionesses squad, and plays a vital part when on the pitch with her determination and her ability to create chances.
