
Megan Finnigan: From Academy to Captain

At just 26 years’ old, Megan Finnigan is essential to Everton’s squad not only providing depth and versatility but also as Club Captain.
On the 27th of September 2023, Finnigan was named captain, ahead of the 2023/24 Women’s Super League Season. Having grown up through the Everton Academy, she’s showcased her talent to the club since the age of nine, ultimately allowing her to rise through the ranks. It's become extremely clear that she is key in Everton’s team following her impressive 21 match starts in her debut season as Captain.
Club profile
Finnigan began her youth career with Everton’s academy at just age nine and has remained at the Club since. She made her debut for the club in 2015 and went on to make six appearances that season. Unfortunately, after playing Durham in a Continental cup fixture, she experienced a serious ankle injury resulting in being sidelined for six months.
However, It all became a reality when pen was put too paper in July 2017 as at just 17, Finnigan turned professional, having signed a two-year deal.
Finnigan continued to play for the club having since signed 3 more contracts, with her most recent being a three-year deal which was signed back in April 2023.
Ahead of the 2023/24 season she was handed the captaincy for Everton and going on to admit that it was ‘an honour’.
Having joined the club at only nine years old, this makes her the longest serving Toffee’s Player.
International career
Finnigan has made appearances for England from U17 level through to U20 but has not yet made a senior appearance for the lionesses. However, whilst playing for England U19 she went on to captain the team at the U19 European Championships. Additionally, Finnigan compete in the U20 World Cup as they claimed bronze in 2018.
